Mrs. Walsh's parties were on everyone's lips, as were her cocktails. The art of mixing was not only related to the invigorating drinks, but also to the sensitive and clever composition of the partyists. Mrs. Clara Bell Walsh, born 1884 in Lexington, Kentucky, Manhattan and one of the first it-girls in history, has become a legend by making the institution of the cocktail party fashionable.
This invention prevented wars, destroyed marriages, made affairs possible and produced more stories than F. Scott Fitzgerald could have written in three lives.
It is important to us to honour her memory and ensure that she gets the place in history she deserves.
